Flights Offer Costs that Aren t in the Initial Bill

Sunday 30 August 2009

People take flights each and every to destinations around the world. Airlines are becoming experts at getting the most money out of both frequent and infrequent fliers. While some people fly routinely and often for business
others fly only for vacations or when there is absolutely no way whatsoever to get out of taking flights to reach their destinations. I would fall into this category.

The last time I took a flight
however
I was in for quite a shock. Things that were once a traditional part of the flying experience now come at premium prices. You must now swipe your credit card in order to use the headphones required for the enjoyment of the on flight movie. It’s truly amazing. Meals are now ala Carte and the prices are more than the average consumer would pay for microwave meals.

If you are planning to take one flight or several flights in the near future
hear are a few things I suggest to keep your pocketbook from going on an unnecessary diet. First of all
pack a good book and skip the in flight movie. If you are traveling with children
bring handheld games
crayons
coloring books
and snacks. Even if you aren’t traveling with children it is much wiser to bring your own food and drink onto the plane rather than paying the premium prices that the airlines are charging. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a light jacket onboard with you if you get cold on flights.

These things are small things you can do to make your flights more comfortable and enjoyable. For many of us our flights are the beginning of our vacations. It is much better to get off to a stress free beginning than arrive at your vacation destination frazzled
stressed out
and much poorer than when you began the process.

Flight Safety Ensuring That Your Next Flight is a Safe One

If you have ever flown you likely are aware of several government organizations dedicated to the oversight of the aviation industry. Alphabet soup sounding names such as the FAA
DOT
and NSTB are often mentioned
but each organization has a distinct role in ensuring passenger safety. Let’s take a look at three federal agencies tasked with ensuring that your next flight is a safe one.

Federal Aviation Administration – The Federal Aviation Administration
or FAA
is responsible for the safety of civil aviation. According to their web site [1]
the FAA is tasked with the following responsibilities:

• Regulating civil aviation to promote safety

• Encouraging and developing civil aeronautics
including new aviation technology

• Developing and operating a system of air traffic control and navigation for both civil and military aircraft

• Researching and developing the National Airspace System and civil aeronautics

• Developing and carrying out programs to control aircraft noise and other environmental effects of civil aviation

• Regulating U.S. commercial space transportation
You can learn more information about the FAA
how it is managed
governing responsibilities
and even hiring information at www.faa.gov

U.S. Department of Transportation – The Department of Transportation
or DOT
overseas the operation of 13 governmental agencies
including the Federal Aviation Administration. The chief responsibilities of the DOT is to
“keep the traveling public safe and secure
increase their mobility
and have our transportation system contribute to the nation’s economic growth.” [2] Visit www.dot.gov for more information.

The National Safety Transportation Board – The National Safety Transportation Board
or NSTB
is an independent federal agency appointed by Congress and tasked with investigating every civil aviation accident in the US as well as in marine
roads
and other transportation areas. Since its inception in 1967
the NSTB has investigated over 124
0
aviation accidents. Visit www.nstb.gov for more information.

Of course
today there is a fourth agency involved to some degree in ensuring passenger safety. The Department of Homeland Security
or DHS
was created in direct response to the terrorist attacks of September 11
2001
This department oversees several other agencies including the Transportation Security Administration
the organization that hires
trains
and deploys transportation security screeners at airports across the U.S.

You may not know an FAA
DOT
NSTB
or DHS employee when you see one
but together they are all tasked with ensuring that your next flight is a safe one.

Flight History Of Aeroplanes And Steps Of Flying

Saturday 22 August 2009

The invention of flight by the Wright brothers has brought about a revolution in the world. The concept of speed and distance started changing. The impossible started looking possible. The perfect combination of strength
weight
and carrying capacity has been experimented and finally achieved.

The airplanes were previously called “Kites”! They did not have much power and were supplied with a lot of wing area. The streamlined aircrafts came up just before the World War I. they has cleaner aerodynamic shapes and had increased horsepower. During the First World War
the traditional wooden frames were replaced by welded steel tubing. Duraluminum was used to prepare all the assembly-wings
fuselage and tail of the flight.

Slowly metal was used to replace the use of wood in preparing the body of the flight. The revolutionary Boeing 247 combined the streamlined all-metal semi-monocoque construction
retractable landing and variable pitch propellers. Whenever there is a war
the nation tries to utilize the best technology. During World War 2
the jet fighter was developed. An all-composite design was appreciated during 1980s. The flight design by Brut Rutan made history by flying non-stop around the world without refueling.

The Voyager’s composite airframe was lightweight and circled the earth in nine days. Not only for transporting people from place to place
certain space shuttle is prepared for space flight. The various mechanical flights include aircraft
aeroplanes
helicopters
airships
balloons and spacecraft. Flying an aeroplane is no easy task. It involves various methods like taxiing; take off
climb
cruise
descent
flight planning
and landing. Some of the early flight pioneers were Abbas Ibn Firnas
Amelia Earhart
Alberto Santos Dumont
Armen Firman
Charles Lindbergh
Richard Pearse and ultimately the Wright Brothers.

A taxiway is used for flights to move from one place to another with the help of wheels
within the airport. The process when the flight
after gathering speed from the runway
leaves the ground and flies into the air is called takeoff. For light flights
usually full power is used. Climb involves getting the flight into the desired cruising altitude. Cruise involved changing the direction of the flight. The landing of the flight by decreasing its altitude is known as descent of a flight. Flight planning is an essential part in both private and commercial flights. Landing the flight to ground level is the ultimate part of safely handling a flight.

Finding Air Transport

There are a variety of options open to you for air transport. You will find that these options are very versatile in several ways. They all use the principles of flying and they also allow for some of the most amazing types of air transport out there. Getting around has never been grander. More and more people are taking advantage of flying in various air transport mechanisms.

While just a decade ago many people would tell you that they had not had the opportunity to be in any sort of air transport
now they will tell you differently. Air transport has become an important part of life and life’s adventures.

Air transport is capable of many things. While we think of airplanes as transportation for people to get back and forth
we also know that it is a way of flying all sorts of equipment and supplies from place to place as well. But
do you realize the large part that air transport plays in protection? What about in health related cases when air transport is the only way to get the patient to the doctor in time to save his or her life? Do you realize the importance of air transport in military expeditions? In fact
air transport is necessary for trade from country to country over huge seas of water as well.

But
for the most part
people think of airplanes as their main use of air transport during their lives. Now
it is possible to take a plane to virtually any place in the world that you wish to go. Some of them even have beds in the seats to allow passengers of overnight flights to get a little more comfortable as they enjoy their long journey. Some air transports aren’t as glamorous but they provide services that we all need.

Finding A Cheap Ticket For Your Flight

With gasoline prices going through the roof and increased costs due to new security measurements
airline ticket prices have risen drastically in the last few years. Flights that were once under two hundred dollars can now cost up to three times as much as before. However
it is still possible to find a cheap ticket if you are willing to be flexible and to do a little research. The Internet is a great tool for helping you find affordable deals that leave you with a little extra cash to spend on your vacation.

Today’s most popular way to locate cheap tickets is through online discount sites like Expedia and Hotwire. These two sites and others like them are devoted to finding discount travel rates on cars
flights and hotels. You can type in a departure and arrival city and the dates you want to travel
and the site will search its databases and bring up a list of budget rates. The more flexible you are
the greater your chances of finding a cheap ticket.

There is a catch
however
when you book flights on Hotwire or Expedia. Most of the discount rates are available on unpopular flight times
typically with early morning or late night departures or arrivals. Also
if you have set dates and times that cannot be adjusted
it can be hard to find a cheaper rate. These website services work best if you have a two or three day window for both your departure and your return. That way
the site can choose from a wider variety of flight combinations
giving you the lowest ticket prices available.

Another cheap ticket seller on the Internet is Priceline.com. This website allows you to enter your travel dates and to offer your own ticket price. If your price is accepted by an airline
you can purchase the ticket at that guaranteed rate. This process can several hours
and if you receive the price you proposed
you are obligated to purchase the ticket. Because of this
you are not able to choose which airline you use. Though Priceline is not as flexible as other ways of purchasing cheap tickets
sometimes you can get amazing deals that you can’t find any other way.

Travel sites like Priceline and Hotwire do offer another advantage in addition to cheap airplane tickets. They also offer the options of booking hotels and car rentals at the same time as your flight. When you book all of your travel needs at once
you can save even more on your expenses
leaving you more money to spend once you reach your destination.

Some airlines offer cheap tickets directly through special web deals. Visit an airline website and locate links for special Internet offers
and you may be surprised at what you can find. Most offer weekly or monthly specials to particular destinations
and you can often save a lot of money by booking your flight online.

If you are a member of a frequent flier program
you can save money of flights not only by using your miles to purchase tickets
but also by taking advantage of the special rates offered to club members. Sign up for email updates from your affiliated airline
and you will become privy to many of their discount specials. On rare occasions
airlines may offer two for one tickets to certain destinations when you use frequent flier miles
or they may offer extra miles when you rent a car from a certain company or stay in a certain hotel. Take advantage of credit card affiliations
as well. You can often earn frequent flier miles by making purchases on a specific credit card affiliated with your airline of choice.

Find Great Airline Fares For Your Trip

Thursday 20 August 2009

There are few things as exciting and inspiring as getting to plan a great getaway or vacation. Life seems to get more and more busy and stressful as it goes on
so the relief and relaxation that a vacation provides are desperately needed by all busy adults. One of the more stressful elements of planning a vacation is finding reasonable airline fares.

For some reason
it is always stressful for people to find great deals on airline fares. Many people look in what they thought was the best place only to find that they paid way too much in airline fares for their next vacation. As a former travel agent
it is my pleasure to help my friends who are in need of help finding the best airline fares for any upcoming trip or vacation.

My biggest piece of advice to anyone looking for the right airline fares is to slow down. Being in a rush planning a vacation or getaway is the best way to stress yourself out and to make poor decisions when it comes to choosing airline fares or any other important decision about your trip. The more relaxed and at peace you can be when planning your trip
the better deals you will find because you will be willing to wait. So take your time and don't rush into any decision on airline fares or anything else about your trip.

Another piece of advice I give is to search high and wide for the best deals on airline fares. Do not just go with the first prices you see or you will have a trip full of regrets because you didn't take time to price the best deals. You can start your search by talking to a travel agent and getting some advice about current airline fares
or you can start by searching for airline fares on your own. Just be sure to do a fair amount of searching before you make any purchases.

Coming up with a budget for different aspects of your trip can be really helpful when you are trying to make decisions about things like airline fares. Set your budget in advance and than only make decisions that fall within that buget.

Planning a trip does not have to be hard or stressful. And finding great deals on airline fares can be fun and easy as well. Just take your time and compare a variety of options and you'll be well on your way of making good decisions.

Fear Of Flying Just Relax It Away

The advancements in science and industry in that last 100 years have left us humans somewhat baffled. You will often hear it said that in the last century
we as human beings have made more accomplishments than at any other time in recorded history. But did it all get a little big
a little to fast?

It seems that these days’ people tend to be more afraid of different things and as humans; we seem a lot more ‘phobic’ than our recent ancestors. I don’t for one minute think that we have evolved into complete phobic beings
but more like the world
science and industry have all evolved and left us behind
thus creating loads of new unnatural scenarios to intimidate us.

I believe that one of these ‘unnatural scenarios’ is flying. For instance it was only a couple of life times ago (if that) that the Write Brothers created their flying machine. And It wasn’t until the middle of the last century (not even a lifetime ago) that we began to fly commercially and start taking our holidays abroad
however just because it may be unnatural
it doesn’t mean that we have to keep any fears of flying that we may have.

Hypnosis
EFT and NLP can all be used with extreme effectiveness to eliminate your fear of flying
however I use all three as to make sure it goes away and stays away! This way you aren’t always sitting there just waiting for it to come back
but actually enjoying the experience that once terrified you.

Whether it affects you in your business life or just the family holiday
a fear of flying can cause no end of upset and unhappiness
however there is now an effective and in most cases a quick solution.

For years Hypnotherapy has been used by so many people worldwide to allow them to swiftly get rid of their fear of flying and allow them to feel comfortable and in fact rather enjoy the whole experience.

If you are tired and always regretting not doing the things that you have always wanted to do because of a fear of flying
then why not see how Hypnotherapy and Self Hypnosis can help you further.

The process is so simple and natural that you will be amazed just how quickly you will see the benefits! Just imagine yourself laying on that beach now. A thousand mils away and not a care in the world! How fantastic would that be?

Eurostar or the plane

Traveling by air has always given the people of this planet the ability to hop from one continent to another in a matter of hours. There is no doubt whatsoever
airline travel has not only changed the way we travel
but it has also impacted on our daily lives.

Strawberries in the middle of winter
to packages sent the same day from the other side of the world. The aero plane has certainly made a big impact on society.

The airliner and the airlines have been the predominant choice for the majority of business people and holidaymaker's alike
looking for quick
efficient and nowadays
a cheap way to travel. There are of course alternative ways to travel
but to some
seem a little outdated.

Many years ago
the train was the lifeblood of countries and economies. The train system
certainly in the UK can leave a lot to be desired at times
but this has been due to the continued under investment from successive governments.

Since the opening of the Channel tunnel in the late 90's
the Eurostar train system linking the UK to mainline Europe has seen progressive growth
despite earlier faltering's. Now this service seems likely to be the major opposition to the low cost airlines flying from the UK to Europe
especially from airports in the London area.

Typically
a flight from London Heathrow to Paris Charles De Gaul (CDG) airport takes just under 1 hour. That seems really quick especially if you need to be in Paris for a business meeting. Now consider these points. London Heathrow is not actually in the centre of London
nor is Paris (CDG). The distance from London Heathrow to the the centre of London is approximately 15 miles
and is pretty much the same from Paris (CDG) to the centre of Paris. With that said
that 1 hour doesn't seem so appealing after all.

We arrived at the check in point at London Waterloo International at just after 14:00. The train we were due to travel on departed at 15:11
calling at Calais and Paris Gare de Nord (the north station). We had traveled by tube to get to Waterloo station
which took about 25 minutes
involving 1 change at Leicester square at a cost of ฃ2 per person.

We had taken the opportunity to book the tickets for the Eurostar in good time and received a great deal. For just ฃ59 return
per person
our total spend so far had totaled ฃ120. Two Eurostar tickets at ฃ59
and two underground tickets at ฃ2 each. We had looked at flying from Heathrow with British Airways and their cheapest fare was ฃ69 per person. Not much difference in the price
but the travel to heathrow and also from Paris (CDG) would probably equate to the same again. Not a good choice.

After initial security and passport controls
we took our seats at 14:55. At exactly 15:11 the train glided effortlessly out of the station with the view of the magnificent London Eye visible to our right. So far so good.

The journey out of London takes you through the suburbs of Brixton and then finally out into the countryside. It seems a little dated on the English side as regards the state of the railway
but after about 35 minutes into the journey
we turn off the old victorian railway onto the brand new
recently commissioned UK high speed line and race along the kent countryside at speeds up to 300kmh (186 mph).

It doesn't seem long before we are going to say goodbye to England and the announcement informs us that the transit time in the Channel Tunnel will be approximately twenty minutes. In no time at all
we exit the tunnel to a glorious blue sky in France.

After making a stop at Calais
we have about an hour and twenty minutes before we reach our final destination. Racing through the French countryside and negotiating the Paris suburbs
we arrive two minutes early. It really was a great journey on Eurostar
and now we are at the very heart of Paris. Those people who had decided to take the plane would now be fighting for taxis or taking the RER train system into city centre. Another 30 to 40 minutes more to add to the journey
not to mention the cost.

The total journey time from the centre of London to the centre of Paris had taken us a measly 2 hours and 40 minutes (approx). This is due to be slashed to around 2 hours and 15 minutes once the remainder of the UK high speed rail link is commissioned in 2007. Once the line is opened
Eurostar will be moving homes and will no longer operate from London Waterloo
transferring to London St.Pancras.

The aero plane laid claim to the king of transportation. After traveling with Eurostar
we say the king is dead
long live the king. Airline domination from London to Paris and Europe has finally had it's day.

EOS Airlines 6500 Roundtrip Airfare

Tuesday 18 August 2009

This just in: EOS Airlines
an upstart air carrier operating flights between New York’s JFK Airport and London’s Stanstead Airport has slashed their fares. For just $5000 round trip passengers can now fly the premium jet carrier and save a bundle. It gets even better than this: purchase one round trip ticket and a companion can fly for free; restrictions apply. Has the airline world gone crazy
or is EOS onto something? Read on for all the amazing details.

On October 25
2005
EOS Airlines’ “official” inaugural flight took off one week after a series of pre-inaugural flights. Directed toward the business traveler
EOS operates custom outfitted Boeing 757 aircraft with seating for just 48 passengers. EOS
which means “Greek goddess of the dawn”
is offering a level of service unlike any other in the industry.

If you book a flight on EOS Airlines
here is what you can expect
besides paying a premium price:

  • 48 passenger lumbar support seating; every person receives 21 square feet of personal space [individualized suites] for a combined work/rest/dining area;

  • Convertible seats that can be easily changed into a 78 inch long bed; cashmere blanket and Tempur-Pedicฎ pillow included;

  • Extra large carry on bins;

  • Lighting and laptop outlets for each station;

  • An onboard library to peruse the latest books and videos;

  • On demand food and beverage service comparable to what passengers receive on a corporate jet.

While the price certainly seems steep
keep in mind that prices rival what passengers had paid on Air France’s and British Airway’s super sonic transport [SST] Concorde before it was pulled from the market in June of 2003. In lieu of a jet that can match the SST’s speed
EOS has created a level of service and comfort that exceeds the Concorde. In other words
EOS Airlines is attempting to fill a void created when the SST was pulled from the market.

As with any new air carrier
    success is never guaranteed. However
by concentrating on business travelers who frequent the NY to London “bridge” EOS Airlines just may have found a special place for itself within the business community. With no new SST on the horizon
privately held EOS has created a viable alternative to business jet travel and at a price far lower than chartering a Gulfstream 550.

It is a dream come true for many those who had the wish to go round the world but couldn't go because of very costly airfare. Dubai Aerospace Enterprise

    Dubai
    prospering from near-record oil prices
plans to invest $20 billion to create a company that will lease planes
develop airports and make aircraft parts to tap into growing demand for air travel in the Middle East and Asia. The family ruled emirate
which owns the largest Arab airline
may buy as many as 50 wide-body aircraft from Boeing and Airbus in the next four years
    said Rashid Al-Malik
project director for the planned company
which will be called Dubai Aerospace. "It's not surprising Dubai is moving into these activities because the whole focus of the aerospace industry has shifted eastward in recent years
said Doug McVitie, managing director of Arran Aerospace, a forecasting company in France.

Mr. Al-Malik said Middle Eastern governments including Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Qatar had ordered as many as 300 aircraft for delivery in the next five years and Dubai Aerospace would order its first this year.

The Dubai Government at the weekend announced the formation of Dubai Aerospace Enterprise as a holding company with six operating subsidiaries.

Dubai Aerospace Enterprise will be chaired by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed al Maktoum, chairman of the Emirates airline group and president of the Dubai department of civil aviation.

Dubai's ambitious foray into the aerospace industry will build on the presence the emirate has already established in the aviation sector through the development of Dubai international airport and the rapid expansion of Emirates into one of the world's leading long-haul airlines.

The business concept here is to create a new hub for aviation, from the leasing and maintenance of planes to training personnel at a new university to operating other airports and even manufacturing aircraft. It clearly makes excellent business sense to lever off Emirates position as a major buyer of aircraft to promote the Dubai Aerospace Enterprise to the aircraft manufacturers like Boeing and Airbus.

Don t Settle Without Low Airfare

If you are anything like me
than you love to travel. You see the world's locations as nothing less than potential destinations for your next adventure. You undoubtedly have friends and family members that think you are crazy
yet you continue to travel the world with the wonder of a child and with the hope that you will become more like the people of the world that you meet in every new place you visit. I have been full of adventure and going on trips all around the world for well over a decade now
and one of the biggest things I make sure of for every trip is that I've found low airfare.

While it is true that world travel has become significantly more reasonable and doable for the average world citizen
it remains true that finding low airfare is something that not all world travelers have learned to do very well. In fact
I know countless friends who still call up the local travel agent or airline in their vacation planning. Smart world travelers know the importance of finding low airfare and they often know the best ways to do it.

After booking tickets to England's annual Chelsea Flower Show fifteen years ago
a close a well-traveled friend of mine laughed when she heard the price I had paid for airfare. I was offended at first and rebuked her laughter by saying that I had found low airfare the best I knew how. That was exactly her point
    she said
that I didn't know where to even begin looking for true low airfare.

She began to teach me tricks of the trade for finding low airfare for all of my adventures. She and I were much alike in that we would go almost anywhere at the drop of a hat just to see and experience something new. So she knew that I needed to be instruced about how to find low airfare because I wasn't about to let even the highest airfare stop me from seeing something I had sent my mind upon.

In the years since that conversation with my friend I have learned some techniques for finding low airfare. Actually

    Conquering My Fear of Flying

    I admit it
I am afraid to fly. And I’m not alone
as many as 1 in 6 adults has at least some fears about flying. For me it’s definitely not a rational fear. In fact all my analytical and logical skills fly right out the window whenever I think about getting on a commercial plane. The most amazing part is that I grew up flying. My father owns a small plane and we would go flying every weekend.

In my preteen years I had an aborted takeoff during a commercial flight and while it didn’t scare me at all during the event
when I later found out that it had made the local news I began to see that this was perhaps a bigger deal (it really wasn’t but I was a preteen after all). I also began to recognize my own mortality and realized that I am a control freak and don’t enjoy the thought of putting my life in the hands of pilots I don’t know.

    However
I’m gradually working my way out of my fears and back into a state of mind that is not afraid. It’s taking me a lot of time
    but I make progress everyday.

My first technique is to get a large inside picture of a commercial plane (preferably one that I’ll be flying in soon) and make it the background image of my computer desktop. This way
every time I get on my computer I’m looking toward the front of an airplane as if I am a passenger. Initially this worked so well my pulse would race and my breathing rate went up. I’ve now conditioned myself to seeing that image so it no longer bothers me.

I also like to watch internet videos of planes taking off and landing. My favorite videos are those that are taken from inside the plane
looking out the window at the wing; hearing the roar of the engines and seeing the ground fall away beneath the plane as it rises upon takeoff. Sitting in my recliner with headphones on and watching those videos enables me to participate in a takeoff without actually being on the plane. I can condition myself to the sights and sounds I would normally experience.

I’ve found several helpful online courses designed to give information to fearful flyers. I use them a lot as I get closer to departure
and I’ve bought every book I can find about conquering one’s fear of flying. I take them with me
    I read them often.

I don’t watch news clips or specials about airplane crashes. The media sensationalizes airplane crashes simply because they happen so rarely. That also means they repeat that horrific story over and over
scaring the wits out of unsuspecting people.

There are dozens of helpful statistics about the safety of air travel; The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) says your chances of being in a fatal plane crash are anywhere from 1 in 400
    0
to 1 in 10 million depending on the airline you’re flying. To someone who has a genuine fear of flying those numbers don’t mean anything when you’re locked in a steel tube with no way of setting foot on the ground until AFTER you’ve gone through takeoff
    landing and turbulence.

I recognize that I need help and am trying to look at air travel from a logical perspective again. Each trip I hope to get a little better. If you are suffering from a similar fear
I encourage you to go through the various online resources available and seek additional professional help if your fears are strong enough and you are unable to get through them on your own. It’s ok. We can get through this and learn to enjoy (or at least tolerate) this means of travel in order to take that awesome vacation
see family or fulfill the requirements of a great job.

    Cheap Flight To the USA

    Monday 17 August 2009

Whether you have a limited budget or simply want to get the best deal on a flight
traveling on cheap airlines can save you a bundle on airfares that you can apply to the rest of your vacation. Over the past few years
cheap airlines selling cheap tickets for cheap flights have proliferated -- and that's to your benefit.

    More often than not
there's negligible difference between a coach seat on a cheap airline and one on the Big Six (American
    United
    Delta
    Northwest
    Continental
and US Airways) airlines. In some cases
flying a cheap airline -- at least one with leather seats
    free personal satellite TV
and other perks -- is superior to what huge airline corporations offer. When searching for dirt cheap airfares
check the Web sites of low-priced airlines. Some
    like Southwest
only sell tickets on their own site. Others offer the best deals to their own customers. And if you buy directly from a cheap airline site
you'll avoid paying the small extra transaction fee sites such as Orbitz charge.

Top Cheap Airlines to US Cities

JetBlue. When JetBlue took to the skies in 2000
    no one expected the airline
with its cheap fares between New York and Florida
to make much of an impact. After flyers experienced JetBlue's easy online ticket-buying technology
    Airbus A320s
    egalitarian single-class system
    leather seats
free satellite TV in every seatback
    pleasant flight attendants
    and cheap ticket prices
they started switching allegiance over to the airline. JetBlue has piled up awards
    including Best US Airline
    Best Domestic Airline
    Best Budget Airline
and Best Value for Cost from a slew of trustworthy sources. With more and more converts
this cheap but hip airline continues to grow. As of March 2006
    JetBlue flies to 35 cities
    including Las Vegas
    West Palm Beach
    Nassau in the Bahamas
    and San Juan
    Puerto Rico.

Southwest. Deep discounts on advance purchases are typical
which is helpful to those planning a long-distance wedding that requires many guests to come from other parts of the country. When the airline has one of its frequent fare sales
the normally cheap prices drop even more. Southwest flies to 63 cities in 31 states. New Southwest planes offer leather seats. However
seat numbers are not assigned by the airline. At check-in you get an un-numbered boarding pass and are welcome to take any free seat.

Spirit Air. Spirit Air flies to 29 destinations. What's different about Spirit Air is that it has two in-cabin classes -- and it's very cheap to upgrade to Spirit Plus
which offers leather seats that are somewhat roomier than coach
    with more leg room
    free drinks
    and an odd
salty snack (who voted on feeding passengers beef jerky and cheese sauce?). Still
even cheap skates and couples on a tight budget like to enjoy the luxury of traveling in first class once in a while. Spirit's inexpensive upgrades ($30-50) are sold online and at the gate when available.

Delta's Song and United's Ted are designed as cheap but fun spin-offs of their parent airlines.

AirTran Airways. It flies to 54 destinations and has Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as its hub. Its new Boeing 737-700s feature XM Satellite Radio with more than 100 digital channels.

Frontier Airlines . It has Denver as its hub and flies to 48 destinations in 29 state plus five cities in Mexico. In-cabin satellite TV carries 25 channels.

    Cheap Flight To Poland

Cheap Flight to Poland: Helpful Tips When Travelling to Poland

In the past all foreign tourists were forced to exchange certain amount of money every time they were crossing the boarder according to the official (poor) course - not anymore! People from Western Europe and the USA were also forced to pay higher rates in the hotels than people from Eastern Europe - not anymore either. In spite of the fact that Polish "zloty" (Polish currency) is interchangeable into dollars (there is not anymore "official" and "inofficial" exchange course). Poland is still a relatively cheap country for the foreigner from the Western Europe and the USA.

There are some precautions that you need to take into account before your travel to Poland:

Better use public transportation than rent a car. Car insurance is very expensive
    one of the reason
    many cars
especially the expensive western brands are stolen by car "Mafia's". Besides
    the road system is poor
there is not enough highways and freeways in the country. Traffic on the streets of many towns is also high (lack of beltways) and it makes driving inconvenient and expensive (gas price is high compared to the USA). Polish police can also take advantage of na๏ve and "rich" foreign tourists and they are first to get tickets. Public transportation system is cheap and comfortable. It includes trains
    buses
airplanes (between some cities) and city transportation system like trams
    buses
metro (Warsaw) and of course taxis. Be careful with the taxi. Some taxi drivers may charge you higher rate especially if you are at the airport
Warsaw airport is the worst. I know that the police tried to solve that problem but I am not sure whether they did. For instance the best way of transportation between Krakow and Warsaw is an express train
but the best transportation system between the Warsaw and Wroclaw (Breslau) is to take an airplane.

Do not do any money transactions on the streets. There are money exchange offices (kantors) almost everywhere and they do not charge a fee for a transaction and are safe to exchange the money. Some locals want to take an advantage of the foreigner. Do not try to look too much as a wealthy foreign tourist with expensive cameras hanging from your shoulder and do not speak your language too loud because you would be exposing yourself to either a thief or someone trying to do some questionable deals.

    Charter Planes

    Saturday 15 August 2009

Charter flights are an alternative to commercial flights. In 1987 the Civil Aeronautics Board opened charters to the public and permitted a great deal of flexibility and competitiveness. Anyone can fly a public charter. It is not restricted to an individual; groups can also charter flights.

You can fly charters into one city and return from somewhere else. One-way tickets
known in charter-industry lingo as "half roundtrips"(one way tickets)
can be bought. Charters can land at over 5
    300
    airports in the U.S.
while commercial airlines are limited to the 560 airports with landing strips long enough to support them. Hence
charter airlines can get you closer to your final destination than commercial airlines.

In chartered flights you deal directly with the wholesale tour operators who act as core entities
    unlike scheduled flights. In turn
the tour operators charter entire planes or segments of planes from airlines to fly specific routes at specific times. They set fares and sell tickets either through their own retail outlets
through travel agents or through discount dealerships.

The price is a main advantage of charter flights. Although the fares fluctuate considerably depending on the seasons
they cost from $50-$200 less than the lowest round-trip excursion fare on a scheduled airline. Depending on the changes in the travel
the charter fares slide low on off-days and higher on weekends.

Larger tour operators with many flights to different places sell half round-trips that permit you to fly to one destination and return from another. Two half round-trips cost only slightly more than one "whole" round-trip. Other large operators even allow some flexibility for altering your return trip
although this privilege cannot be counted upon on every charter. Charters often provide the only nonstop or direct service overseas from interior cities.

One of the main drawbacks of charters is that they don't go everywhere. While many charter flights take off for Europe or Southeast Asia
few are available to countries whose

governments have protectionist policies toward national or state-owned airlines. Consequently
few charters are available to the Far East. Secondly
charters have restricted and inflexible schedules. Tour operators arrange back-to-back flights on which planes fly into
    for example Los Angeles
on Saturday morning and depart on Saturday night. You can stay any number of weeks
but you cannot fly within the week or on any other day.

Charter passengers must pay for the charter flight weeks or possibly months in advance. Tour operators will sell seats until the last minute
but in practice the most desirable dates fill up early. Also
passengers who alter or cancel their travel plans are subject to substantial penalties.

Budget Airline Oasis HK Launches Vancouver Route

After emerging as the world's pioneering long-haul
low-cost airline with the launch of its Hong Kong-London route last October
Oasis Hong Kong has launched today its new long-haul route.

    Oasis' 12-hour
non-stop flight from Hong Kong International Airport will bring travelers to Vancouver six days a week.

To service their passengers going to Canada
Oasis Hong Kong has purchased three additional Boeing 747-400s from All Nippon Airways (ANA)
and have expanded their in-flight resources by 200 cockpit and cabin crew members.

    Stephen Miller
chief executive officer for Oasis Hong Kong Airlines said in the airline's press release: "Vancouver is very appealing to Hong Kong people as both a business and leisure destination
and there is a high demand for flights to Vancouver out of Hong Kong. We are pleased to be able to respond to our consumer's needs by offering this super value service."

The great value offered by Oasis is easily judged by the price of their economy class return tickets
starting at as little as HK$3
    980
    (US$509) and HK$18
    0
    ($2
    303
    return for business class.

Ticket prices are available via their website and are nearly 50 percent cheaper than that offered by Oasis' direct competitor.

    In addition
    for at least one year
the airline also guarantees that it will provide 10 percent of economy class seats on every flight at HK$1
    990
    ($255) one way.

The Vancouver route is expected to follow the success story of Oasis' first international destination London
    with tickets starting at HK$1
    0
    ($128) one way. To date
the budget airline has flown more than 100
    0
    passengers on that route.

Miller said the response from customers on the London flights had been overwhelmingly positive.

We've had tremendous feedback from our customers. The people of Hong Kong have really embraced us, for whom we are grateful,
    he said.

The compliments we have received, especially from our business travelers, have given us the encouragement to now extend the same superior product and service experience to the much awaited Vancouver route.

Now in operation for eight months
Oasis Hong Kong is quickly gaining nods from global travelers by providing premium services that are unusual in budget airlines
    such as online check-in
free hot meals and personal in-flight entertainment.

    On the Internet
fans call Oasis Hong Kong "a very solid airline with much better service than short-haul budget airlines"
praise its "fantastic value" and "friendly cabin crew"
while a travel blog dubs it "the best travel newcomer of 2006".

Over the next five years and with a projected 25 aircraft
Oasis Hong Kong plans to fly to more leading aviation hubs in Europe and North America
including Chicago and San Francisco in the United States
as well as Milan and Berlin.

It seems the world is becoming a bit more accessible in an amazingly affordable way.

Attention America Here come the Thunderbirds

Recently I got invited by my daughter to visit her and her family in Las Vegas and watch her husband at work. Well..Las Vegas
who could say no to that invite. Under ordinary circumstances that would have been enough. But not this visit!!

You see my son-in-law Steve goes by another name- “Dallas”. Steve is Major Steve Horton the #4 slot pilot for the United States Air Force Flight Demonstration Team-“The Thunderbirds”.

The occasion was the Approval show-the very first show of the season but open to only friends and family of the whole team and several high ranking Generals with pen and paper taking notes on every move. Approximately 1000 got the honor of seeing the new 2006 team do their stuff over their home at Nellis AFB under overcast skies. The crowd is so small by comparison to a normal show of 200
    0
attendees that it feels like a private audience with the Pope. The biggest ever crowd was at Coney Island on 4 July1987 -a mere 2.25 million watched in awe that day.

And if that wasn’t enough the following night it was the annual show season kickoff dinner
which at least partially celebrates the end of a grueling training schedule. This year the dinner was held at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in beautiful downtown Las Vegas.

That gave me the opportunity to meet some of the new team members “up close and personal” including LTC Kevin Robbins Commander/Leader
aka “the boss”; MAJ Ed Casey
    Opposing Solo; CPT Nichole Malachowski
Right Wing aka “FiFi”; and CPT Tad Clark
Narrator. “FiFi” is the first female Thunderbird flight team member-a tribute to her ability as a pilot-was the subject of a “Good Morning America” story that very morning.

As you might imagine this very elite group of 6 flyers
    6
other officers and a support team of 135 outstanding young men and women are
    simply put
the very best in the world. All that talent
    energy
    dedication
    teamwork
pride in what they do and how they do it-I am humbled to be in their presence but so proud to be an American.

In a nutshell the Thunderbird mission is primarily to support recruiting and retention programs and as you might imagine public relations. The team probably spends as much time at meet and greets as they do flying. They are a PR machine-and not a bad machine at that.

The Thunderbirds have a very demanding schedule that runs from March to November every year with usually 65-75 shows in upwards of 30 states. Check out www.nellis.af.mil for more information and a show near you. It is an experience you won’t forget and well…it is AWESOME!

    Airlines of North America

    Friday 14 August 2009

The airline industry is in a constant state of flux. In 2005
Trans Meridian Airlines quit doing business while EOS Airlines and Maxjet Airways took to the skies. By early 2006
Independence Air quit flying and Virgin America announced that they were seeking U.S. government approval in hopes of taking their first flight. Beyond the U.S. borders
the Mexican airline industry is in the process of being revolutionized as the Mexican government divests itself of interest in two leading carriers. With this particular decision a handful of new carriers are set to take off south of the U.S. border. To keep track of the all the changes involves a ton of work
but I've done the hard work for you. The following list contains all of the current airlines serving the Canada
    the United States
and Mexico. Stay tuned…more air carriers are certain to follow while some existing carriers may call it quits!

How many names do you recognize? Some carriers are strictly charter operators while others fly regionally. Still others are very small operators of Cessna aircraft
not what you might consider “airline” aircraft
but in the eyes of the Federal Aviation Administration they are:

    • Aeromexico

    • Air Canada

    • Air Labrador

    • Air Transat

    • AirTran Airways

    • Alaska Airlines

    • Allegiant Air

    • Aloha Airlines

    • American Airlines

    • ATA

    • Avolar Aerolํneas

    • Big Sky Airlines

    • Cape Air

    • Chautauqua Airlines

    • Continental Airlines

    • Delta Airlines

    • EOS Airlines

    • Frontier Airlines

    • Gulfstream Int'l Airlines

    • Hawaiian Airlines

    • JetBlue Airways

    • Maxjet Airways

    • Mesa Air Group

    • Mexicana Airlines

    • Miami Air Int'l

    • Midwest Airlines

    • North American Airlines

    • Northwest Airlines

    • Pace Airlines

    • Pen Air

    • Primaris Airlines

    • Ryan Int'l Airlines

    • Shuttle America

    • Simmons Air

    • Song

    • Southwest Airlines

    • Spirit Airlines

    • Sun Country Airlines

    • Ted

    • United Airlines

    • USA 3000 Airlines

    • USAirways

    • WestJet Airlines

    • World Airways

    To keep the list simple
    cargo carriers were omitted. Otherwise
    operators such as UPS
    Kalitta Air
and Emery would have been included.

Contact the carriers directly to find out what schedules they are keeping and airfare information. Perhaps you'll find a "bargain" in the crowd and be able to try out an all new carrier.

Airline Tickets Make Some Time to Save Some Money

    When people decide to travel
the last thing that in general crosses their mind has to do with airline tickets. In general
people are so anxious to take the trip that they establish the destination
    choose the hotel
look for tourism packages and even sometimes rent a car and the airline ticket is forgotten.

Airline companies know about that and they can do many things just to create strategies to get the biggest profits they can from the buyer. The only way to prevent this from happening is to dedicate some time before travelling just looking for different companies that offer tickets to the destination you want
    and comparing the prices.

    Saving some money

Have you ever given up on a trip because the airline ticket was a fortune you couldn't afford? Yes
this is a pretty common thing and it happens more than we imagine. There are people that plan the whole trip
    choose the place
    the hotel
buy special clothes for the destination
and when it's time to buy the airline ticket
simply find out they cannot afford it.

    In order to avoid that
rather than planning everything in advance and leaving the airline tickets for last
do the opposite. Airline tickets should be at the head of the list of things to do for someone who is going to travel.

It's important to have some guidelines to buy cheaper tickets and save some money to spend on the trip. Some useful things are:

    - Write a small list of places you would like to go to. After that
start looking for airline companies that offer flights to those places.
    - When this is done
it's time to check your budget and establish how much you are willing to spend. This is pretty helpful because it avoids frustration. It's easier to travel if you have more than one option because you can have different prices to choose from and see which one best fits in with your own budget.
    - If you are used to travelling on business
    you can check on discounts
either with a travel agency or with the company you are using.
    - Sometimes
travelling with a tourist package is cheaper than planning your trip by yourself. This happens because agencies offer packages that include airline tickets
    hotels
    sightseeing
    visits to landmarks
car rental and some other things.

    Different prices - Same arrival

Since there are many airline companies spread through the world
people can find several prices if they look at different airlines. The competition in this market is so tough that the difference between prices can be enormous.

    However
if you are used to always travelling with the same company
you probably have some sort of bonus program that offers discounts. In this case
it's advisable for you to check the deals that may be available to the destination you've chosen
before going looking for tickets with other companies.

    Holidays and airline tickets

If you have all the details of your holiday settled
buy your ticket in advance. Besides avoiding a rise in the price
you don't run the risk of tickets for your destination being fully booked.

    Airline Safety Increase Your Odds

    Long before
but especially since the 911 airline hijackings
people are weary of airline travel. A lot of people want to know they are riding on a safe airline. Airlines for the most part are safe
and the most dangerous factors usually include flying conditions (such as storms
or mountain terrain). Proper planning of destinations and good airline security lessens the chance of terrorists
bombs and hijackings. Of course there are always the rare occasions that something horrible will happen
but it is said to be 100s of times more dangerous to travel by car than it is by plane. That statistic should be comfort enough. The International Aviation Safety Assessment is a guide to which countries meet the airline safety checks
    not the airlines themselves.

The majority of airline accidents occur on take off and landing
so you should try and book flights that don’t have a stop over destination. That’s a good preventative measure right there
    not only that
but you wont have to sit and wait to change planes half way through your flight. Another good way to fly safer is to know that larger airplanes have stricter rules and the passengers have a better chance of survival if the plane should crash
so you might want to consider booking your flight with a large airplane of thirty or more passengers.

    Like anything else
always be aware of the closest emergency exit
and consider keeping your seat belt on at all times while seated. This is especially true if you are nervous about turbulence; which is often unexpected and can cause injury. You should also keep anything too heavy out of the overhead carrier in case of turbulence. You don’t want anything to fall on you or anyone else. Also
allow the flight attendants to handle your hot drinks and food as they are trained to handle it and can safely manage giving it to you. You don’t want to be walking around with a hot cup of coffee in your hand and have some turbulence spill it all over you or someone else.

As far as airplane crashes go
    they are very rare. However
    if the incident should occur
try to remain calm and listen to the flight attendants. They know how to handle situations and keep you safe. Often the very front or very back of the plane is the safest. Sitting close to the wings is the worse place to sit. If the plane wings get torn off in a crash it could tear the fuselage and cause death to anyone near the carnage.

    But don’t worry
airline travel is safe. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Just believe you will live and you don’t have anything to worry about.

Airline Reservation Online Money Saving Tips

Airline ticket rates can vary wildly for passengers on the same flight. One person can pay $250 for a seat
while the individual in the next seat may have paid $1000. There are many tactics to help your reservation resemble that of the first passenger
    not the latter.

Book your flight as soon as you decide on travel plans. Airlines give discounts for reservations made at least 3 weeks in advance. The best rates often include a Saturday night stay and have travel dates during the work week.

Shop at the many online travel agents to compare the rates of many different airlines. Be sure to check at least 3 different sites
as each may have a different alotment of tickets
and service fees can also vary.

Be flexible about when you travel
since even changing the flight time on the same day can effect the reservation rate. Unpopular early morning or late evening flights tend to have lower rates. Also
try to avoid peak travel season
    summer
    spring break
and Christmas and New Years. The cheapest fares tend to be found during the off season and at other times when planes are filled below capacity.

If travelling to a large city
Check the fares for any nearby smaller airports
as it might be cheaper to fly into a neighboring city. Remember to allow for other costs when you considering this option
such as rental car or taxi fares. This might also extend travel time.

    In some instances
splitting the trip with stopovers my bring savings. However
be sure the savings are large enough to justify the extra trouble of the stopover.

Look into booking your travel plans as a package deal. Sometimes it is possible to save money by reserving a hotel room and a rental car along with the airline ticket. If you are going on a cruise
ask the cruise company if they are affiliated with any airline. Some credit card companies also have discount agreements with some airlines. The reverse is also true : many airlines have agreements with hotel chains and rental car companies that can save you money on other travel expenses.

When dealing with a live travel agent
ask if this is the best rate that they have available or if there are any specials offering essentially the same itinerary when you are booking your reservation.

Apply any special discount programs for which you are eligible. Students age 16 to 26 are can get special discounts
and seniors may be able to get discounted fares through the AARP.

    Belonging to
    or travelling with a group
may get you a better deal on airline reservations. If you are a member of a club or service association
check whether they have a travel plan. If travelling with a group
ask for a group discount. Discounts are often available for government
    military or corporate employees. Often
airlines will even extend these discounts even for non-business travel.

In the case of large groups
it is sometimes cheaper to charter a plane than reserve individual seats. This may save time as well as money
since the charter airplane will accommodate your schedule
and baggage can be managed for the entire group
with much less chance of loss of luggage.

When you reach check-in at the airport
ask if any special upgrade deals are available. Sometimes it is possible to upgrade to first class at a nominal fee
and this is definitely worth it on long flights due to the larger seats and extra leg room.

Airfare Doesn t Have To Hinder Your Dream Trip

Is there a vacation that you have been dreaming of taking? Perhaps you have been dying to visit Vancouver Island in Canada's British Columbia
or maybe you want to tour Europe with nothing but your backpack. Have a desire to relax on a Caribbean island or on the islands of Greece? Any of these amazing vacations could become a reality for you. Unfortunately
many people who dream of traveling are hindered because of the great expense and hassle of finding good airfare to make it to their dream destinations.

    Obviously
you cannot get from here to there without airfare
    and therefore
you can throw away any dreams of a great vacation unless you are willing to search for airfare that works for your budget and needs.

Finding airfare can be really easy or very difficult. One of the easiest ways to find great airfare is to talk with a travel agent. Travel agents are paid to help you find the best possible airfare for all of your travel needs. You can simply relay to them your travel desires and your budget and then trust them to come up with great deals. However
if you have the desire and ability to look for airfare on your own
you may be able to find better deals.

Finding your own airfare can be a great way to save some money and to be selective about the particular airlines and schedule for your flights. Just jump online and do a search for inexpensive airfare. You will probably be overwhelmed by the amount of options you have
but just begin somewhere and don't give up too quickly. Be sure to compare prices
schedules and other details between websites. You may even be able to find great airfare by bidding for your own prices on certain websites.

No matter how long the process takes
press on to find great airfare. Why? Because your dream trip will quickly become reality when you find airfare. Once people overcome the obstacle of choosing airfare
often the rest of the trip details fall into place quickly. Details such as accommodations
    food
entertainment and recreation never seem as overwhelming as finding airfare.

Take my advice: find your airfare first. Don't let a flight get in the way of making your dreams come true.

Air Travel - Flying with an Infant Toddler

Air Travel with toddlers doesn't have to be a stressful experience. Here are some exclusive tips that will help you make it through your flight.

Schedule your flights to coincide with nap/bedtimes.
    Whenever possible
try to book direct flights during the time of day or night your child would normally be sleeping. In all likelihood
they will keep up the pattern and fall asleep despite being 25
    0
feet in the air. Any sleep they get on the plane will serve to cut down the time they must be entertained while awake!

    Car seat on the plane?
When our daughter was an infant we choose to save the money and only purchase seats for ourselves which meant she spent the duration of the flight(s) on our laps. More recently
we have taken to carrying-on the car seat which accomplishes two very important things: freeing up our laps
    arms
    and such
and keeping her in the seat. It also adds some familiarity to a new vehicle/mode of transportation - a little piece of home(life) in a new place. Yes
it is frustrating having to carry the seat around the airport
but the in-flight payoff is worth it. One Step Ahead sells an adapter to turn a car seat into a backpack which may help you manage your carry-ons.

    Managing the Flight
An easy and effective way to manage your in-flight
family-with-toddler(s) experience is to break the trip down
    mentally
into 20 minute segments (to borrow an airline term). So
if you have a 2 1/2 hour flight
you really have only 7 twenty minute segments to schedule and occupy your child's (or children's) time. When you think of your flight in this manner it becomes a relatively manageable event. Here are some parent and flight tested tips on segment ideas that will occupy and entertain your kids
providing you with some down time to peruse the SkyMall catalog
and not have you lugging a suitcase full of toys around the terminal.

(remember: each idea has to occupy a mere 20 minutes
anything more than that is a bonus!):

    * A new toy or book (nothing fancy
just something brand new to him or her)
    * Crayola Color Wonder Markers (an inventive product that will only write on the special Crayola paper) - This is a favorite of ours. No messes at all and no toxic marker smell. The marker caps make for great
silly kid fingernail extensions. In fact
if your child is anything like ours
the caps alone could be their own segment.
    * Tape and/or Stickers - Plain old Scotch tape can be a load of fun for a little one. Roll it up inside itself to make a sticky circle and let them stick it to their nose
    your nose
between their fingers...just good old fashioned fun with a 2 inch piece of tape.
    * Magna Doodle (Travel Edition) - A classic toy that our modern kids still enjoy. (Note: really young ones may get frustrated at their inability to
    independently
erase their work as the tab to clear the screen can be rather difficult to slide)
    * A Discman/Portable CD player - If you do not have an old one collecting dust somewhere
they can be had relatively cheap in the iPod age. This is perfect if your child has a particular CD they are diggin' at the moment (or if you have made a Mix CD of their favorite songs). If they have never used a portable cd player before
the novelty of this device combined with the music they already love should carry you for two segments. Be sure to keep the volume at a low level and use only the classic earphones with the large
round and padded ear pieces that sit on the outside of their ears. kid size earphones?
    * Their favorite book(s) - (often a bedtime book
which is essential if your flight will involve a nap or take place during bedtime).
    * For older toddlers/young kids: some brochures/city-location guide books. Allow and encourage your kids to plan a day trip
    museum visit
etc. Give the reigns over to them for a period of time (whatever you are comfortable with/have the time for) providing they devise a plan using the material you bring on board. Not only will this occupy a good amount of time
but they will love the chance to be the boss and decision maker. By engaging them in the trip planning you will also increase the chances of them enjoying themselves and going along with something you want to do (reciprocating the favor). For the younger members of your family
use the brochures as a conversation piece to get them excited and interested in what they will be seeing during the vacation.

Snap-Crackle-Pop (Dealing with the altitude and popping ears)
Be sure to pack their favorite beverage and snack on board. Not only will the eating and drinking occupy a segment but it is also an method of reducing the impact of air pressure on their ears. By drinking or chewing they will hopefully not feel an uncomfortable amount of pressure while taking off and landing.

    Enjoy your flight!

Additional Start Up Airlines Are Looming

    Several months ago
    in a related article
I made mention of two start up air carriers for the US market. Since then
both EOS Airlines and Maxjet Airways have taken flight and are successfully serving their passengers and making plans for future expansion. Beyond these two carriers
additional carriers are waiting to take their first flights. Let's take a look at some leading contenders.

Fly First Class -- This Florida based air carrier is planning to use Wilmington
NC as its base. With flights to Bermuda and London planned
the airline -- true to its name -- will offer only one level of service
first class. Expected first flight is sometime during the second quarter of 2006.

Primaris Airlines -- Already FAA approved and the owner of a single Boeing 757 aircraft which they currently are leasing to another carrier
Primaris placed an order in January 2005 for Boeing's new Dreamliner aircraft
also known as the 787. Before the first of these particular aircraft arrive in 2008
Primaris reportedly will be leasing three additional 757 aircraft and begin scheduled service between New York
    Los Angeles
and San Francisco by the middle of 2006.

Virgin America -- Pending government approval
Virgin America will fly upwards of 105 Airbus aircraft. Based in San Francisco
the Richard Branson inspired airline must overcome some hurdles first including convincing the US government that the airline is
    indeed
    mostly US owned.

Other start up carriers which are also being watched include: Blackstar Airlines
    USA Jet Airlines
and Baltia Air Lines. All start ups must secure key funding
receive various federal and local governmental approvals
    organize a management team
and commence hiring well before the first flight is made. It is this particular process that shakes out all the pretenders leaving behind carriers committed to making a go of it.

A Look Inside Frequent Flyer Programs

Airlines know the price of getting a new customer. And they know that it’s a whole lot easier and less expensive to keep the customers that they already have. For this reason
airlines started frequent flyer programs. These programs reward you the more you fly.

Frequent flyer programs let you to receive certain travel benefits based on the number of miles (or sporadically the number of trips) you fly on a specific airline. Standard awards include a free ticket or a free upgrade from coach to first class.

Some airlines also offer "elite" programs that provide check-in and boarding priorities
and "affinity" credit cards which earn mileage credits when you use them for purchases.
In order to earn these benefits you must become a member of that airline’s program; this can often be done through a travel agency.

There isn’t a how many programs you can join. But before you decide which program to join
you should compare different programs carefully.

Every airline program carries conditions and limitations. So you should be careful to read the promotional material and the all the fine print. Here are a few things you should take a look at:

    - The rate at which credits are earned
    minimum credits earned per flight

    - If you are more interested in free tickets for yourself
    or companion tickets
    or upgrades

    - How much credit you need for the awards you’re interested in

    - What are the deadlines for accumulated credits?

    - Does the airline serve the cities you’re traveling to
and if it has tie-ins or other airlines and to car rental companies and hotels you would use.

    - If awards can be transferred to someone else or just members only

    Also
airlines reserve the right to make changes at any time. More often than not
without notice. This can include changes to the conditions and limits on the awards earned.

You should also be keeping track of the mileage you've earned and check it against the statement the airline mails to you.

It's not uncommon that airlines add new routes after you join the program. You might be able credits on that route but not use awards there.

Another important not that you should be aware of is that airlines usually restrict the transfer of mileage earnings. Most often being the sail or attempted sale of credits or awards you've earned and want to sell. You should never try this as the airlines have caught on to these schemes and actively persue it.

5 Top Tips to Get You Upgraded on Flights

    For many travellers
paying up to ฃ5000 for a business class ticket in order to fly in greater comfort simply isn't an option. However
what very few people realise is that most airlines will upgrade passengers from economy class for free - if they meet certain guidelines. In this article
I will pass on some of the things that the check in staff look for and require so that you can take advantage of the loopholes and get your upgrade for free. These five top tips come direct from the check in staff of some of the best-known airlines
and are considered by many regular travellers to be the holy grail of getting something for nothing.

    Tip Number 1:

Look the part. Make sure that you are dressed smartly when you travel. There is almost no chance of getting a free upgrade if you are wearing shorts and a scruffy t-shirt
    so at the very least
check in wearing a shirt and pants. there is no need to go overboard and wear a suit - unless you really want to. The key is to look smart
but not like you're trying too hard.

    Tip Number 2:

Turn up early. The check-in staff know exactly how many passengers are travelling on a particular flight well in advance
so if there are seats to spare in business class
    they will know straight away.

    Tip Number 3:

Be Polite. Put yourself in the place of the check in staff. Would you reward a person who gives you attitude and starts shouting the odds
or someone who is pleasant and gives them the time of day. There may be 250 people in the queue behind you
so make them remember you. Flirt
    smile
    use their name
    be nice
and you may well get a pleasant surprise.

    Tip Number 4:

Be a Frequent Flier. If you join an airline's frequent flier programme
you are far more likely to be at the front of the queue for an upgrade
as the airline will want to reward you for your loyalty. Even if you do not fly regularly
go to the airline's website and join their programme online. It will only take a minute or two
and is well worth the time.

    Tip Number 5:

Ask. They say that if you don't ask for something
    you won't get it
so make sure you do - but do it at the right time. If the check in staff look stressed
and no amount of charm has elicited a smile
    don't bother to ask them
wait until you get to the gate. If the counter staff have responded well
when they ask you if you have any specific seat request
be cheeky and say "First Class" to them. It might just work.
